Meme from April...

1. When did you first start blogging and why?

I started Blogging in 2001, shortly after my ex-wife walked out on me for a good-for-nothing mormon sonofabitch. I registered this domain in '02, and have never looked back.

2. What don’t you talk about?

I generally refuse to talk about my wife, my family, and anything I consider to be sacred. Yes, even I consider some things sacred.

3. Are you and your blogging persona the same person?

Well, yes and no. I would say yes, because I don't make up content, or pimp it from my friends lives. At the same time, I would lean towards no, because of the voice that I write it. In Real Life, I am far less outspoken and brash. Several people who met me after reading brochspot.com have informed me that I am much more likable in person. Glad to hear that!

4. How do you use blogging to build friendships?

I have friendships that have spanned the entire time I have been blogging. I consider these people to be my real friends, making no line between those I have met and those that I haven't. Of course there are differences, and also different dynamics to the relationships. All of my local friends know about brochspot.com, and from time to time will even come by and comment.

Blogging has even been detrimental to relationships for me. It is best to let someone you are romantically involved with know about your blog, especially if it isn't anonymous. They WILL find it. Google is funny that way. There can then be a host of problems, such as, you don't talk about them enough, you talk about them at all, who is that girl commenting on your blog.... So on and so forth. My policy now, is to not discuss it period. I'm married, my wife reads this blog, and she is fantastically supportive. Hi Baby!!!! =-)

5. How would you describe your writing style?

It would have been easier to do so in '02 and '03. These days, I use my blog as a sounding board. Flat out, I'm snarky. I need to have a place where I can snark to my hearts content, so I do. I pay the bills here, natch.

The power of words

The spoken and written word are extremely powerful. Once those words leave your mind and travel into the world via your mouth or fingertips, they cannot be taken back. Self fulfilling prophecy is something that I have witnessed a lot of lately, and these things are closely related. Don't put negative thoughts out there that you don't wish to come back and bite you in the butt. If you have a lot of self-loathing, self-hate, or even severely negative thoughts, DON'T put them out there in the ether. That's not to say to not talk about them with someone, but certainly don't paste them all over the internet, or go spewing them in public forums.

I have a prime example of this. Noting my disdain for the "Mommy Blogging" crowd, there is one that, IMHO, carries all of the classic mommy blogging ingredients.

1. Attractive 30-something mommy.
2. The attractive sperm-donor, whom she swears all other women desire (Her fan club wants to jump him)
3. The family dog, central in many stories.
4. Mommy has severe mental/emotional issues.
5. Mommy brags of previous party girl/successful career aspirations.

Along with those central traits, this particular mommy blog contains several stories of self-loathing, anti-social, and bad stories about her boyfriend/fiance'/ex/whatever you want to call him. She then bemoans her actions, stating that she wouldn't blame him at all for leaving her.

He finally did. Good for him.

I've changed my mind....

Since the Iraqi government has now asked for the freedom to try and punish American soldiers, I have changed my mind on our being there. I think that we should begin pull-out today. Not a little pull-out, a complete pull-out. Let the new Iraqi government, and their citizens fend for themselves.

Happy Independance Day!

Happy Independance Day everyone! This is the day that we celebrate our independance from the tyranny of British rule. 230 Years of freedom, let's not forget the lessons we learned along the way. Perhaps we need to revisit the true meaning of independance and look at some of our foreign policy. We need to realize just how dependant we have become on some of our adversaries. It's time to say no the the oil lobby, and learn to stand on our own two feet.

Mommy blogging? WTF?

Mommy Blogging??? WTF???? Like I really want to hear stories about your cute little bambino, and the baby diarrhea colored baby diarrhea that just shot up his back, and landed on the cat, that knocked the vase off the mantle, and poured water onto the plasma tv that you bought with money you made from advertising on your blog. Do you really think that anyone else shares the opinion that YOUR baby is the cutest one??? Ha, get real. I do have a couple of these that I read, for the trainwreck effect. I have noticied common themes among many mommy-bloggers, themes that I'm a little more than disturbed by. One being, "I love my pet more than my husband/sperm donor." Some of these MB's, actually think that their pets have super-powers. Some MB's, I think, have forgotten that they are the member of a team, and swear that they will never have physical contact with their spouses again. This isn't 3 weeks after the baby is born, this is usually over a year later. Keep that up for another 6 months, and we'll be reading a story that your husband is out running around on you. Can you blame him? Another being, "I used to party so hard that Columbia had to up their production of narcotics on days I went out." Yay. You grew up. Want a bozo button? The most disturbing trend I see on mommy blogs is the rampant use of Anti-depressants/Anti-Psychotics. I'm going to have to jump on the Tom Cruise bandwagon here. What did OUR mothers do when feeling down? They couldn't run to the local prozac stand or go talk to their therapist every time life got rough.. .I do know that there are legitimate uses for these drugs, and that there are people who really need them. I just think that they are FAR over prescribed, and that as a society we lean on them too much.

I'm probably going to get slammed for this post, what with my lack of a uterus and all, but I just don't get the mommy-blogger thing. Don't they have anything better to write about???

Brought to you by Broch, keepin it real since 1970
