Again, I won't pay it.

I have paid 3 bux a gallon for gas yet, and I'm sure as hell not about to. I've been using the bus to get around, and until the price of gas drops below 3 dollars a gallon, my car can sit and rot on its tires.

Here is a snippet from CNN.com that just goes to show my point...

He said that there is normally about a 60-cent difference between wholesale prices and retail prices, with the difference going to distribution, marketing and profits for station owners. But the gap has risen to nearly $1 in the last week after Katrina, he said.

Profiteering bastards. I think that it is going to eventually blow up in their faces however. During the time period while they are gouging the hell out of consumers, we are figuring out just how much we can do without. This brings me to a conversation that I held with some friends several weeks ago, let's call it "Fortress America." Check back tomorrow to see that one...

It helps that I hate to drive so I don't have to buy gas that often - unfortunately there is not a bus route near my home. I would ride a bike but I don't have one, I look horrible in hats (especially helmets), and I would have to go straight to the ER at the hospital where I work when I got there because I'm too damn old to be riding that far on a bike. The aftermath of Katrina is heartbreaking. Our government should be ashamed of all the "thinking" instead of "doing" and the gas gougers and people who intend on profiting from this disaster need to have their houses torn down, all their possessions destroyed and their ill-gotten-gain asses thrown into what's left of the dome in New Orleans.
CNN is misleading you. Although "technically" true; retail markup is 9 to 15 cents; the rest is your taxes which, of course, are not paid on the wholesale side of the transaction. You'll find that most stations are selling gas at a loss by a couple cents right now. 60% to 70% of the profit of a gas station comes from inside sales, not the gas anyway. Put the gas in your fucking tank, take off your birkenstocks, and get back into the real world.
