An Oasis...

Maybe our world is dryin' up, it's raining here tonight... How awesomely beautiful is that??? This town is a dust-bin as far as I'm concerned, but it doesn't matter, because wherever I go, an oasis sprouts up. After reading stories of concentration camp victims who tunnel inwards, into their own minds, to find beauty and peace under intolerable conditions, I know that I can certainly do the same.

It is true that life is 1 percent what happens to and around us, and 99% of how we react to it. There are pockets of civilization around me here, and I appreciate them for whatever they are, but mostly this is the land of two conflicting ideals. On my right are the Big SUV's, the mondo-homes of suburbia, and the neighbors who are putting second and third mortgages on their homes to afford designer labels. On my left are the wannabe hipster mod moguls. Thrift-store-o'rama furniture, trucker hats, the whole nine yards. The common thread between the groups is that they spend so much time worrying about their stage props, that they lose any appearance, whatsoever, of authenticity.
