Alternative Energy, Hmmm.

I sat and perused a very interesting website before work today, and it kept spewing forth a bunch of bs about an impending doom, someone forgot to tell me about it, that is about to plunge our planet into chaos and disorder. Who knew??? This website insisted that we begin stockpiling a years worth of food and water so that we may take care of our families. Hmm, maybe not a bad idea?? The more that I have researched this type of thing, the more that I have discovered a disturbing trend of reactionary and paranoid behavior that I feel can be eliminated.

With the price of crude oil at over $40 a barrel, is quite apparent to me, and apparently others (Again, who knew?) that an alternative energy source is not just a great idea anymore. It is imperative that we become far less dependant on fossil fuels. I am not looking at this from an enviromental standpoint, there are PLENTY of others out there doing that for us. I am viewing it purely from an economic standpoint. Wow, the available systems out there, from solar to wind to hydro, are all UBER expensive. It amazes me that they are not in deeper demand, which would ultimately call for more production and lower prices. What I am calling for is a complete overhaul of the infrastructure of the industrial model. Yes, it would take awhile, yes it can be done. We have done it before.

Bzzzzt...wrong. There's quite a bit of headroom left in the price of oil before it gets expensive enough to warrant alternative fuels, let alone a complete revamping of our production and delivery network. $40/bbl oil would be $1.50/gas if we got rid of all the boutique fuels required by localities that think it's helping air quality...which it's not. Hell, most of the hybrid cars out there, even though there's great demand, don't make financial sense over a 4 year lifespan. The surges in fuel prices will maybe, maybe have me spending another $500 year on gas and I drive 40,000+ miles a year and get maybe 15mpg. Tell me, why would i pay many thousands more for a Toyota Prius and end up with so much less car and less cash in my pocket? Realistically, $2/gal gas isn't that expensive. It sure hasn't kept up with wages and inflation.
you didn't read bush bashing in my blog. if you did, i got hacked.
Im in full agreement Steve, 2 bux a gallon is VERY cheap for gas, especially when compared to the price of gas anywhere else in the world. No, I detected no sort of bush bashing at your site, nosiree bob.
