Thank You.....

Eighth grade. Talk about an impressionable year. The summer after my eighth grade year, I was taken on a trip to Italy with my sister and parents. Little did I know what impressions would be left on me the day that we all climbed onto the airplane to head east. The impressions left had nothing to do with Italy, rather someone that I met on the flight back to the states.

I was armed with my trusty Sony Walkman, a boat load of AA batteries, and music that I am far too embarassed to admit that I was listening to. I couldn't fall asleep, and I was running out of music to listen to. One of the flight attendants was sitting near us and apparently over-heard me talking with my sister about the fact that I needed something new to listen to. After conversation, I found out that one of my good friends fathers had been her French professor at Illinois State University, and that she had been on a trip to Grenoble, France, with his class. A level of trust was established and because she was a very-cool college age girl with obviously fantastic fashion sense, I trusted that any music she offered would be great. She introduced me to a band called New Order, the album was called Low Life. I was listening to that very album tonight, and it made me think of how that chance meeting shaped my musical tast throughout my teenage years and adulthood. She also gave me my taste for girls that wear sexy little glasses.

Shera Heberling, I raise my glass and tip my hat to you tonight. Thanks for the great memories, wherever you are.
