I'm gonna be hated.

This blog has never been about winning a popularity contest, nor would I want it to be. Some of you are invited readers, some of you have stumbled upon my site. Nobody wants war. Here is the reason why: Mothers, Fathers, Brothers, Sisters, Husbands, Wives, Boyfriends, Girlfriends and Children are all going to DIE!!!!!! That makes me sick to the pit of my stomach. I want world peace just like you all do. It is now quite evident that this war IS going to take place. The thing that I would like for each of you to consider though, is that it is not because George W. is a bloodthirsty warmonger. It does pain me to say that, as I am not a supporter of his. One thing that I am though, is a patriotic citizen of the United States. As a nation, we have elected our leaders, and need to keep from polarizing with our fellow Americans. I would like to say this as well, If you do not vote, shut your pie hole.

Does anyone remember September the 11th, 2001?? We united as a nation that day. We cried with each other, held each other up, and wiped the tears from each others eyes. We need to live like that always, not only when faced with adversity.

My political views have greatly changed over the years, and I am far left of where I used to be. Please don't thing me a heartless bastard, as I am quite the opposite. I just want people to turn off their emotions for a second, and to really use their minds. With great power comes great responsibility.

I love all of you, and pray with you that our soldiers all come home safely to their friends and loved ones.

I agree that it is proper for us as a nation of free people to take this stand - to protect those that cannot help themselves. I am still praying for peace - knowing that it will come at a high price and grateful that we have our soldiers out there willing to put their lives on the line. I pray for their safe return. And, no, Broch - who could hate you? You make a very reasonable argument for "why?"
I guess that with all of the media showing all of the protests, and all of the people that I know participating in them, that I know my opinion is not a popular one. On so many levels I am much more liberal than some of these people, yet on this issue, I can't be. The strong must protect the weak. I was a small kid, and was picked on a lot. I am now a big guy, and would go to the ends of the earth to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
After reading your post, I'm really not sure what side you stand on here. You seem to start off against the concept of war and then you rationalize the use of war; or at least understanding that the time for talk is long past. I don't want war. I really don't. That's why we must fight this one. I am a fan of GW and so much more so than years ago because I see action behind words and I respect that. Yeah, I remember 9/11. Damned if I'm ever gonna let that happen again. That single event will polarize ever decision I make for the rest of my life from the products I buy to the people I vote for. The United States got lazy in the 90s and I'm gonna vote with my feet, pocketbook and pen for the rest of my life. The road home, and to peace, leads through Bagdad and a number of ofther nasty places in the world. I hope and pray for everyone's safety.
Oh yeah, I forgot. I am completely with you that if you don't vote you can't bitch. But, when the voting is over you gotta get behind the president even if it wasn't your candidate that won. That's what we don't have happening here. We've got too many people against this action for the sheer fact they hate GW. You can be against it, but for christ sake, come up with a sentient arguement.
Nose, that is my point exactly! I am for going in there, cleaning house, and getting rid of the filth that is running Iraq. Even though I may not be a hug G Dub fan, I'll stand behind him, and support his decisions. On a very conservative note, I still believe that law abiding citizens should be able to carry a concealed weapon.
Yes...and I do. ;)
I agree with your ideals and perception of the issues. One wonders, at what point does this clamour for "peace" become appeasment? Perhaps the French know the answer. Edmund Burke, from the 1700's had it right when he said... "Evil will triumph when good men do nothing!" and "When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle." Chamberlin did not heed the warning and WWII was the result with thousands of Jewish innocents murdered as predicted.."one by one." I support George W for his appreciation of history and focus any contempt toward the unmitigated cowardice of both Canada and Mexico, who have chosen once again, to sit this one out. These are countries which enjoy the umbrella of freedom the United States and its people guarantee without the moral or ethical backbone to raise a finger in their own defense. I can think of no greater condemnation of the character of a people than these. May God help the ideals of "peace" and freedom everywhere if the United States every chooses a similar path. May peace on earth become a greater possibility as a result of our nation's resolve and may our immediate prayers be focused on the safe return of those engaged in the struggle for freedom everywhere, as well as the innocent citizens in Iraq who now find themselves in the horrific predicament of being at gunpoint, from both the back and the front.
amen scott...amen.
